Russian WTA player Liudmila Vasilyeva begins training with Johan Kriek

The Johan Kriek Tennis Academy welcomes Russian WTA player: Liudmila Vasilyeva.

Liudmila (Luda) was born in Kamensk-Yralsky, Russia where she grew up and learned to play tennis. As a junior player, Luda reached an ITF ranking of 394. At the age of 17 Luda played in the semi-finals of the Russian Championships and decided to move to the USA to play college tennis at the Washington State University where she graduated with a finance degree. After her college career, during which she competed at the singles NCAA Championships twice, Luda began traveling on the WTA Tour where she is currently ranked 716 and climbing.

We are happy to have Luda at our academy and we wish her lots of success for the upcoming season!

Meet the Author

Daga Mrozek Kriek began playing tennis at the age of 9, in her native country, Poland, achieving the number 3 ranking in Juniors for three consecutive years. She has also excelled in collegiate tennis at Virginia Tech where she played for four years on a full athletic scholarship. She was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1996 and was a member of the Atlantic 10 Championship Team from 1996 to 1999.
